WA Government A$2M funding agreement finalised

A Financial Assistance Agreement valued at $A$2 million has been finalised with the Western Australian Government’s Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation.

The funding, provided via the Collie Futures Industry Development Fund, will go towards development of a 1,000 tonne per year commercial graphite micronising facility and ongoing research for the  planned battery anode material plant.

It is part of the State’s A$600 million program to attract new industries and create future-focused jobs in Collie before coal mining and coal-fired power generation is retired in 2030.

With graphite critical for global decarbonisation and the burgeoning battery industry, IG6’s proposed mine-to-market downstream graphite processing and research and development hub offers long term employment prospects for the coal-fired region.

“We are proud to be partnering with the WA Government in Collie to establish a new sovereign supply for Australia and a new global source for international battery manufacturers as they source raw materials needed to achieve the exceptional forecast growth in battery demand,” IG6 Chairman Phil Hearse said.

The Company’s development plans include procuring larger, ‘production qualification scale’ equipment to demonstrate micronised graphite production capability and provide the quality control needed to secure customer sales agreements. Subsequently, the Company plans to install additional equipment and complete front-end engineering and design for a commercial-scale micronising operation at Collie. The works are expected to be completed by the close of 2023.
